Field Update from Patty Abozaglo

Patty Abozaglo, Overseas Programme Manager for Bóthar recently visited Zambia in November and had the opportunity to meet the implementing team and direct beneficiaries of the  project "Integrated Livelihoods and Agri-Business”. This project has been implemented by Heifer International with funding from Bóthar and Irish Aid.

During the week of the 31st October to 4th November, Patty held two meetings in the field in Kabwe and Kapiri-Mposhi where this project is implemented reaching 2000 households, of which 60% are women.

An internal evaluation of the last three years of implementation of this project is being carried out. The final report will be launched soon.

Scholastica (pictured) is one of Bóthar's beneficiaries in Zambia, She is a farmer and leader in the community of Balaka in Kabwe. She is proudly showing cattle received by the project which has made a difference in her life and family. After training she received as part of this programme, Scholastica is now selling the milk of her cow and is generating her own income. Her husband and other members of the family also help on the farm. She is happy and very grateful for the support received.

Scholastica is also part of the Milk Collection centre in Bamakasi where milk is successfully sold to the Parmalat- Dairy company. Bamakasi Milk Collection centre is one of the successful stories of this project were mostly women farmers are earning their own income after selling their milk. This income has been used to improve their diets and nutrition, send their children to school and make significant housing improvements.  We will bring you more information on this as we get it.
