Achill Island Challenge Trek

Achill Island Challenge Trek

Achill Island off County Mayo is a jewel of rugged landscape and beautiful scenery in Ireland’s western coastline. Hosting the tallest sea cliffs in Western Europe, some secluded sandy beaches and many great walking trails throughout. What more is needed when walking with friends? Bóthar has organised a three day walking event to raise funds in aid of the Rwandan Creamery project.

Our walks will take you back in time through the deserted village of Slievemore, steeped in history and stories about the lives of those who once lived there. Out to Mulranny where the walks will take in part of the world renowned Greenway, a disused railway track now shared by walkers and cyclists. And finally our walk will take you past Captain Boycott’s dwelling place and up to the highest sea cliffs in Western Europe; there our cliff walk around Croaghaun will take in the breath-taking views of Keem Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

Each of the three days offers participants a choice of walks varying in difficulty. Walk options are offered to cater for all abilities from the beginner to the more adventurous hill walker.

This all inclusive residential walking event takes place from Thursday 14th to Saturday 16th August 2014. Accommodation, food and local transport are all provided as part of each participant’s contribution. Each year the event generates in the region of €25,000 in support of Bóthar who specialise in the use of livestock in their programmes in the developing world.
