Animal Airlifts

Animal Airlifts

February 2009

In February 2009 Bóthar airlifted over 200 in calf dairy heifers from Ireland to Albania and Kosovo, all three of these airlifts took place during the last week of February, it was a wonderful achievement by Bóthar and all of its supporters.

In the days following the airlift Bóthar received the following note from one of the field staff Ilirjana Ademaj who was at Pristina airport in Kosovo to meet the animals as they arrived.

Donations from Ireland continue

On February 27th 2009, Heifer Kosovo received another shipment of donations with pregnant heifers from Bothar-Ireland.

Irish farmers, (although affected by global crises), donated these heifers to help farmers from Kosovo. 60 “flying” heifers arrived in Prishtina airport on Friday morning, and next two weeks will stay in the quarantine, according to the law in Kosovo, from where they will go to their future home.

Bothar from Ireland has helped in many ways Heifer Kosovo, such as: heifers, pigs, AI semen, trainings and in numerous other ways. This way, many Kosovar farmers, after receiving donated cow, continued keeping the pure breed of animals, because this breed is very productive, and the beneficiaries of Heifer now have already proven this themselves.

Bothar promises that this will not be the last donation given to Kosovars.

During the unloading of heifers from the aircraft, the weather was warmer, and the staff that travelled with the aircraft acknowledged that they always notice hospitality and optimism in Kosovars, because their faces are happy and smiling.

The heifers will be distributed after few days to the farmers of villages Novosellë (Peja region) and Pleshine (Ferizaj region).
