Sligo Trek for Bóthar
Following on from the success of our second Ireland trek in Wicklow in August 2009, we are currently planning for a great trek in Sligo in August 2010. We are seeking fundraising trekkers from the 32 counties to joins us for the event. Sligo is a beautiful county and has some great walking opportunities. The event promises good trekking, great fun and of course, much needed funds for Bóthar. We plan to make this event our most successful to date. The 3-day event is now open for booking.

Horse Trek in Zambia
Bóthar is delighted to be able to announce the details of a very exciting Horse Trek that will take place in Zambia from the 27th Oct to the 6th Nov 2010. Bóthar is looking for equine enthusiasts to take part in this adventure and raise much needed funds for its dairy projects in Zambia.
The trip is sure to be both a challenging and rewarding experience for riders, with the added bonus of being led by ex-South African event rider Steven Rufus!

Party Animals
Party Animals is a new fundraising initiative being launched by Bóthar. The project encourages the parents of birthday children to collect donations for Bóthar rather than receive a conventional birthday present. The birthday boy or girl can then pass on the collected gifts to Bóthar allowing the Aid Agency to use the donation to provide a valuable farm animal to a poor family somewhere in the Developing World.
This concept is designed to appeal to the many harassed parents who spend reluctantly on those last minute gifts for the many birthday parties their children attend in any given year. Bóthar is confident that the idea will appeal to people when they see that so many unfortunate children in our world seldom have enough to eat much less be in a position to celebrate a birthday.
Speaking at the recent launch of the venture, Pat McCarrick Fundraising Projects Director with Bóthar said “This programme will give parents and children alike an excellent opportunity to learn more about our world. As well as becoming aware of our own privileges, awareness will also be imparted about those children in our world who are so much less fortunate.”
“The gift of a food-producing farm animal can lead a family struggling on the margins of survival to a place of relative comfort in a very short time indeed. The ‘gifts’ coming from this initiative will save lives.”
