Snail hunting is traditionally widespread among rural farm households in southern Cameroon, especially in the dense rain forest areas in the Southwest Province. Snail farming is growing in its popularity, especially in semi-urban areas due to increasing demand for snails.
Your gift of snails will help Bóthar to provide poverty stricken families with snail farming techniques to allow them to produce locally available and highly sought after quality animal protein. The existing demand for snails, especially in the urban centres, means that the local populations are willing to pay a high price for them. As a result, organised snail production has the potential to generate substantial income from modest investments compared to other livestock species.
In time, the recipient family will 'pass-on' the same number of snails received from Bóthar to another needy family.
