Bóthar has one pig project in the Ukraine which began in 2007. The main aim of the project is to help families earn an income through the improved breeding of their animals but a number of pigs, training and equipment have also been provided to a local orphanage.

Project title:
Helping farmer families of 'Prydunavia' Farmers Association to improve swine breeding and production
Location: Odessa Oblast (Region), Izmail Area, Prydunavia
Number of families: 27 families and 1 orphanage
Animals: 3 families in each village will receive 3 gilts each. Each village will receive a boar also
Other inputs: A water boiler for Utkonosivka Orphanage, freezing chamber for storing meat.
Training: Project implementation, animal care, financial and project reporting, gender issues.
Brief synopsis: This project is located in the Izmail region, in southwest Ukraine, where three gilts each and one boar will be distributed to each of the 27 farmer families in nine of the project villages. Three gilts are also being distributed to an orphanage in the village of Utkonosivka for breeding and a water boiler and freezing chamber will also be built there. Training and veterinary aid is also being provided for all involved.
Pass-on obligations: 28 families will receive three 10 month old gilts from the original families.
