Pakistan is one of Bóthar’s newest project countries, with our first project beginning there in April 2007. Struggling families have been provided with training, support, local dairy goats, cattle and buffalo.

Project title:
Income Generating Goats Scheme for 40 Women Farmers in Faisalabad


Location Location: Rural area of Faisalabad, Punjab Province, Pakistan

Number of Families Number of families: 40

Number of Families Animals: 80 goats, 2 per original beneficiary

Number of Families Training: Livestock education workshops will be provided

Number of Families Brief synopsis: The project aims at making the target community of women farmers move towards self-reliance by increasing their sources of income. The 40 beneficiary farmer’s women will purchase teddy goats through a loan. Each beneficiary will receive two goats (preferably a male and female). A veterinary doctor will be hired and regular quarterly vaccination camps will be organised.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: Each beneficiary will pass-on 3 teddy goats, targeting 54 new beneficiaries.

Number of Families Expected benefits: The target community will be able to improve the nutrition of their families, improving their health and providing education for their children.

Income Generating Buffalo Scheme for the poor communities in Pakistan


Location Location: Pakistan, Mirpur District

Number of Families Animals: 20 heifers, 1 bull

Number of Families Training: Seminars have been provided on livestock management and care.

Number of Families Brief synopsis: The project aims are to make the target community members move towards self-reliance by increasing their source of income. The 20 beneficiary families will purchase 1 heifer each and 1 bull for community, through their credit co-operative society.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: Revolving fund will be implemented to facilitate the pass-on.

Number of Families Expected benefits: Families will improve their economic circumstances and also will be able to fulfill the other basic needs of their families by improving their health and providing education for their children, improving the nutrition of their families and their socio-economic conditions.

Project title:
Goat Scheme as the tool of rehabilitation for Women of Earthquake areas


Location Location: 5 villages in Azad, Kashmir Region, moved to Okara Region due to political strife

Number of Families Animals: Paheri local breed dairy goats

Number of Families Other inputs: Each family will receive 50 fruit and wood tree seedlings

Number of Families Training: Committee Members and project field staff will organise training for the women. The animals' care, management and housing will be the main focus priority of the training.

Number of Families Brief synopsis: This project aims to help those rebuilding their lives following recent earthquakes in the area by providing them with training and 2 local dairy goats each along with multi-purpose trees.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: Each woman will pass on the first female offspring to another selected individual

Number of Families Expected benefits: The project families will increase their income and improve their quality of life and also further rehabilitate themselves after the earthquake.
