Project title:
Community Livestock Production Strengthening Project (CLPSP)


Location Location: Makawanpur, Surkhet and Kaski in the hilly district located in the Central and Western regions of Nepal.

Number of Families Number of families: 375 families of the following castes/ethnic groups, Dalits, Janajati, Brahmin, Chhetry & others. All female headed households.

Number of Families Animals: Goats, Pigs and Poultry

Number of Families Training: Training will be provided in management and care of animals and increasing livestock production.

Number of Families Brief synopsis: This is an extension of a previous project that was successfully completed. The project aims to empower local community women groups through awareness and capacity building in order to promote positive attitudes, equality and emphasise a sustainable local level initiative for livestock development. There is also a micro-credit part to the project. The first year will mainly involve capacity building, the second the distribution of livestock and the final year the setting up of co-operatives.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: There will be 420 indirect beneficiaries, including local livestock farmers who can avail of the veterinary system put in place.

Number of Families Expected benefits: The communities will be aware of the need to be independent and interdependent for successful sustainable development. The involvement of women and Dalit caste in village level decision-making bodies has increased and their issues effectively taken up and addressed.

Values-based Community Livestock Development Project


Location Location: Banke, Bardiya, Pyuthan, Surkhet, Salyan and Rolpa Districts in the Mid-Western Region

Number of Families Number of families: 4,500 original families

Number of Families Animals: 13,500 goats and 450 breeding bucks

Number of Families Other inputs: Fodder seed, saplings, vegetable seeds will be provided. 500 biogas units, 2,200 smokeless stoves and 1,000 hygienic toilets will be constructed. 34 VAHWs will be trained and provided with basic veterinary kits.

Number of Families Training: Group management, gender justice, VAHW training, Literacy Program facilitators training, Animal management and health and vegetable farming. Beneficiaries will also receive training/education on environment, health and sanitation related matters.

Number of Families Brief synopsis: 4,500 families will receive 13,500 goats, plus 450 breeding goats in addition to instructions on how to successfully grow vegetable and plant trees. Literacy programmes will be provided to 2,500 illiterate participants. This integrated approach will greatly benefit families in one of Nepal's poorest regions.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: 9,000 families will receive the first female kid goat from every female. A 'Passing on the Gifts' Fund will be organised for the distribution of biogas units, smokeless stoves, toilets, trees, etc.

Number of Families Expected benefits: Families will have increased their average annual incomes by 100 euro and have increased their consumption of good quality food and literacy rates by 50%

JAAGARAN - Local Capacity Building for Poverty Alleviation Program


Location Location: Sankhuwashaba district, Kosi Zone, Eastern Nepal

Number of Families Number of families: 500 families

Number of Families Animals: 2 goats each to 250 family (500 goats) and 2 pigs for 250 families (500 pigs)

Number of Families Training: General animal management and gender justice.

Number of Families Brief synopsis: The families addressed in this project will increase incomes and nutrition levels through the distribution of goats and pigs. They will also avail of the training that will be provided, enabling them to build a sustainable future.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: 1,000 families

Number of Families Expected benefits: The socio-economic condition of the project participants will be improved.
