Our first project in India started in 1999. Families in 9 different provinces here are working with a variety of animals including dairy cows, goats, water buffalo, sheep, pigs, poultry and also fruit bearing trees.

Project title:
Income Generation Programmes at Razole Parish


Location Location: West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, India

Number of Families Number of families: 45 families

Number of Families Animals: 50 Goats, 16 Buffaloes

Number of Families Training: Training will be provided in all aspects of animal care

Number of Families Brief synopsis: The project aims to improve the living conditions of families by providing them with an income generating program. The families will be first trained and then provided with goats and buffaloes which will provide milk that can be later sold on in the local market.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: The first offspring of the animals will be passed on to other families.

Number of Families Expected benefits: The beneficiaries will be able to educate their children, and buy books and clothing. They will become financially self sufficient.

Project title:
Income Generation Programme for the Disadvantaged and Poor Parents of Disabled Children in Mugaiyur Block


Location Location: Villupuram District, Tamil Nadu, South India

Number of Families Training: Areas of training include animal care and milking, disease control and immunisation.

Number of Families Brief synopsis: This project aims to improve conditions for the parents of the disabled children by providing an interest free loan to buy dairy cows so that they can provide their children with opportunities for education and further development.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: A revolving fund will be established to include an additional 50 families over 2 years

Number of Families Expected benefits: School dropouts will be reduced, children will get a nutritious diet and the families will be free from the clutches of money lenders

Project title:
To Empower Rural Women by Sustainable Self Employment Program


Location Location: Tirukoilur Taluk, Naiyanur, Devanur, Ottampattu, Veerapandi and Arunapuram Villages, Villupuram District, Tamil Nadu State

Number of Families Number of families: 25 female beneficiaries

Number of Families Animals: 25 cross breed dairy cows

Number of Families Training: Training will be provided in all aspects relating to their animals care.

Number of Families Brief synopsis: This project aims to improve the lives of 25 Dalit women and their handicapped children by providing a loan to purchase a cow which in turn will provide them with regular income and enable them to give their children education.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: Pass-on will take the form of a revolving fund which will then provide for more women to join the project.

Number of Families Expected benefits: Eradication of illiteracy, reduction of child labour and school drop outs among the handicapped children and to free them from domestic violence

Project title:
Empowering through Livelihood


Location Location: Uttaranchal State

Number of Families Animals: Goats to 100 families, poultry to 200 and water buffalo to 50 families

Number of Families Other inputs: Kitchen gardening will also be introduced and veterinary support will be provided

Number of Families Training: Improved animal management, veterinary practices, vegetable production, project management, gender and justice and value based literacy

Number of Families Brief synopsis: In the newly formed state of Uttaranchal, 350 families will improve their nutrition and increase their family income through raising goats, poultry and getting milk from water buffaloes. Improved farming techniques will be encouraged along with the provision of better quality livestock.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: 350 families will receive pass-ons within an 18 month time frame

Number of Families Expected benefits: Increased annual income by €260. Training in improved farming techniques.

Income Generation Programmes for Mamidikuduru Parish


Location Location: Mamidikuduru Parish, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh State

Number of Families Animals: Buffaloes & goats

Number of Families Training: Training related to all aspects of animal care and management will take place.

Number of Families Brief synopsis: Heavy floods hit Mamidikuduru in August 2006. In an effort to combat the damage done, 35 families in the area have received buffalo and goats which will provide milk, meat and the opportunity for the people here to sell their surplus produce.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: The first female offspring will be passed-on to other needy families.

Number of Families Expected benefits: Milk from the buffaloes will create a sustainable income. Goat meat has a very high value in this part of India. Animal manure is a great source of fertiliser for local crops.

Project title:
Dairy Farming for the Widows of Mugaiyur Parish


Location Location: Mugaiyur Parish, Pondicherry-Cuddalore Archdiocese, Villupuram District, Tamil Nadu State, India

Number of Families Other inputs: Construction of cow sheds and green fodder development

Number of Families Training: Animal care, project development

Number of Families Brief synopsis: During the harvesting season, most of the women in the area can get employment working in the fields of local landlords. However, outside of this period, the availability of work, and subsequently income, can become seriously low. In this project, 25 families have been provided with heifers so that they can have produce to sell outside of the harvesting season.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: Each original beneficiary has to pay towards a fund that will be used to assist another 25 families in the next year

Number of Families Expected benefits: The women will have access to an income and a chance to develop their smallholdings while their children will have a chance to get an education.
