Dièbougou Aviculture Development

Location Location: Departments of Diébougou and Tiankora in the Bougouriba province

Number of Families Number of families: 715

Number of Families Animals: 10 chickens per family

Number of Families Other inputs: Construction materials, veterinary products

Number of Families Training: Chicken farming, chicken house construction, human health, nutrition, cassava planting techniques, conservation techniques, stock farming techniques, deworming, vaccination and external parasite treatment

Number of Families Brief synopsis: Our project here is with ASUDEC, a local NGO and takes place in Diébougou and Tiankoura in the south west of the country. Thus far, a total of 715 families received 10 chickens each having already built the shelters to house them. Along with a vaccination programme, the participants have received training in disease prevention in order to minimise ill health in the chickens. The chickens feed is produced locally by the NGO in order to get it to the farmers at close to cost price. Similarly, the cassava plantation and manure production help to improve the lives of the families in this region.

Number of Families Pass-on obligations: 2 chickens will be requested, of which one will be passed on

Number of Families Expected benefits: Through the provision of animals, the families involved will both improve their nutrition with meat and improve the productivity of their plots using the manure from the chickens and the techniques they learned during the project.

Number of Families Local partner(s): ASUDEC (Africa Sustainable Development Council), LSDC

Number of Families Other relevant data: High demand for poultry at a local and national scale
