Ireland’s sporting heroes came out in force on Friday October 9th to play in Bóthar’s Golf with Stars.com fundraising initiative where winners, from all over Ireland, got to play golf in the K Club with a sporting celebrity.
The winners of Bothar’s Golf With Stars competition took to the Ryder Cup greens of Ireland’s K Club on Friday October 9th, for Bóthar’s inaugural Golf With Stars event.
Legendary personalities from the world of sport polished off their golf clubs and joined the raffle winners on the award-winning Palmer Course.
Legendry jockey and Sunday’s Qatar Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe winner Mick Kinane was one of the first to tee off, followed by fellow racing legends Johnny Murtagh and Charlie Swan, hurling legend DJ Carey, GAA greats such as Eoin Kelly, Stevie McDonnell, Benny Tierney, Oisin McConville, Colm Cooper, Michael Fennelly, Darren O’Sullivan, Mick O’Dwyer, and Kieran Donaghy, as well as rugby heroes Denis Hickie, Peter Clohessy, Mick Galway, and Anthony Foley.
Winners on the day were Benny Tierney’s team - John Burke from Galway and his two golfing mates.
After the round of golf, everyone enjoyed a dinner in the clubhouse and a great night was had by all.
Speaking about the event, Niamh Mulqueen, Bóthar’s Corporate Affairs Director said, “We have been thrilled with the support that has been given to Golfwithstars.com by all of the sporting legends and the general public. They have all been so cooperative and willing to give their time to this fundraising initiative. The event was a great success and we look forward to doing it again next year”.
The fundraising initiative helped raise funds to bring dairy cows to struggling families in Rwanda, East Africa. Instead of the original 3 airlifts that were scheduled for October, Bóthar is now able to send an extra airlift of 70 heifers to Rwanda in time for Christmas. So 70 extra African families, who are currently preparing to receive an animal, will now have their in-calf dairy cows in time for Christmas.
